It started on a Tuesday.
Heather Raya heard a neighbor on the South Hill could not get the mower started. Three people on the block showed up. The lawn got cut. She made lemonade. Heather wondered why this was so hard to arrange on purpose.
Spokane is full of people with an extra hour and people who could use one. Porchlight holds the list: yard work, dog walks, groceries, a tablet that will not ring Seattle, a porch that would be less quiet with cards on it.
We are a small 501(c)(3). We are not a home-care agency, a moving company, or a crisis line. We are the extra pair of hands next door.

What we keep
Show up
An hour on the calendar is a promise. If you cannot make it, release the shift so someone else can.
Stay in the yard
Boundaries keep everyone safe. We do not handle money, medications, or driving without a separate agreement.
Small is enough
A loop with the dog counts. So does a bag of leaves. You do not have to fix a life. You have to arrive.
Neighbors, not heroes
The person you help has a name, a lawn, and a Tuesday. Treat the visit like you would on your own block.
